As Valentine's Day grows near, those Aggies with a special someone will participate in the national tradition of buying roses, hopefully with as little wallet-damage as possible. There are other costs, however, besides those spent on a bouquet - costs involving the safety and well-being of laborers in places like Ecuador, the world's fourth-largest producer of roses. Ironically, a holiday about love and caring in America is supported by labor and environmental abuses in the third world.
